Its Called Football everywhere on the god damn planet apart from N.America. It will always be known as Football so if the Americans dont like it then they can stick to playing Baseball.

Well its called football in the uk because you use your foot to kick the ball. Unlike american football were you run with the ball in your hands??????. I think its called soccer in the u.s. because the americans have to try to be different and have their own slant on everything. For instance pavement in uk is sidewalk in u.s. but you never see people walking sideways on it do you??

Oh and football was invented in the uk so if we invented it then thats what it should be called. American football is rubbish anyway, its just rugby for wimps who have to wear padding and helmets!!

Football IS the English word for FOOTBALL.

Soccer is a slang term deriving from Association Football as Rugger is a slang term for Rugby Football.

What is "Western Football"?

well people are smart, it was called association football and of course they had to shorten it so socc which is all an alteration were in Webster Dic. it say its been around since 1889. But it is funny that it all started out in London, England. So it was more of a slang rather then its proper name Association Football. It was an year where they just shorten everything and thats how it happen.

AND OF COURSE IT DID START OUT IN COLLEGES.

It is called football world wide. Only in the US and Canada it is called soccer because of the confussion of "American football" (NFL). Weird if you ask me because on the NFL only 1 guy kicks the ball lol

Actually the only places that soccer is called soccer is in the US and parts of Canada. Everywhere else in the world it's called football.

US and Canada calls anything they want to anything. I have asked this question to so many people. Why do they call football as football, when most of the time they simply hold it in the hands and run. And why not call football (referring to soccer) just as the rest of the world.

That's right here in the UK we do call it FOOTBALL, the US just like to be rebels and call it soccer and since Canadians are copy cats they call it soccer aswell. The whole world shouldn't have to give in to north america just because they can't call a sport by its real name. Our football came first not the american crap version of it that is play with full padding and a misshaped ball.

So it is not confused with American football, which isn't football at all because it's played by passing the ball with your hands. The rest of the WORLD know that to truely play football you use your feet apart from the goalkeeper.
